Actos Dashboard
Kwin Scripts
Score 68%
Description:

KWin script for managing windows, apps and activities, similar to the Gnome Shell Activities view.

Activate the script in System Settings > Window Behavior > KWin Scripts.

Open the Dashboard by pushing the top-left edge.

Make sure you don't have any anything set up to activate when pushing the top-left edge, in System Settings > Workspace Behavior > Screen Edges.

Would love any help:

Please, don't let this script die.
Recently i took a look to the code and tried to mod it myself - i removed anything related to activities, those parts were responsable of a relevant lag on kwin startup - merely aesthetics changes. I'm also trying to introduce workspaces support (yes: it's not original, but more functional. Design fact: less clicks to do more things == better approach).

This is the first time i'm looking to QML code, and i'm not confident with plasma QML/kwin scripting APIs either.

Right now i'm smashing my head to remove the dash background - a better approach would be to darken the desktop area, if that's possible :P

Really: don't let this die! And KUDOS for the work did so far. I read you're looking for help: i'm available.

I'd love to keep working on this, but right now I just don't have the time.

If you're hacking on it, I'd gladly merge in any pull requests on GitHub:
https://github.com/ghinda/actos-dashboard

I wouldn't remove Activities completely, but maybe add an options page for the script, where you could enable/disable any of the tabs (apps, activities, vdesktops, etc.).

Yes, making them optional is the best approach, i'll look for that.
I've few time myself too, but still can work on it during the weekend ;)

Last thing i did was to "break" the app list tab into pages, i still need to create buttons to navigate through them though.

Btw, silly question to ask, but this is the first time i'm into QML and KWin scripting: do you know any way i can force the dash to an hardcoded background instead of using the background.svg from the current plasma theme?

You could use the Image or BorderImage elements, as used here:
https://github.com/ghinda/actos-dashboard/blob/master/contents/ui/main.qml#L31-L38

Or you could just create a big semi-transparent Rectangle with opacity, and move it in the background.

I just noticed that nearly all entries in the menu are missing. As it seems all launchers that are in submenus are ignored. Can you please add submenu support? Nearly all of my launchers in the kmenu are sorted into submenus for a better overview. Would be nice to have that in your launcher's menu too.

Also some launchers in the categories are not displayed. The Chrome-Apps categorie seems to be empty though it contains two launchers. And in other categories, apart from the missing submenus and their entries, launchers which I have created myself and where the application is located in my home's bin directory are not displayed either....

Reads and looks promising!! Is there a way to change the activation side? I'd love to use the left side instead of the upper edge, for me it is of no use as long as it requires the upper edge to show. Best if that behaviour is configurable, maybe even via systemsettings where you control the edges' actions.

What I wanted to say: I have difficulties using the screen corners for triggering some action, it takes too many frustrating efforts until I succeed. Therefore I only use the screen sides. Can you please add a configuration to use the left screen side instead? I guess there are more people who have tremor problems and who therefore prefere a wider activation "point"...

Go to System Settings > Window Behavior > KWin Scripts, then press the Get New Script button on the right.

In the newly opened window, search for Actos Dashboard and press the Install button.

Move the mouse in the top-left corner to activate the Dashboard.

So that's the problem, I have only Task Switcher, Window Behavior and Window Rules under Window Behavior.

After installing, close the System Settings window and open it again. It seems that sometimes KWin doesn't notice the newly installed script.

Hey ghinda, thanks heaps for making this up. I am using it, and it seems to be very functional and stable. Much appreciated.
I was wondering if it's possible to set the applications view as the default view?

It's really cool to see that this is possible in KDE. My only question would be if you could add support for changing virtual desktops like gnome has.

I was actually trying to abstract virtual desktops away, and make people use Activities instead.

Still, I'd be happy to accept a pull-request if somebody would like to take a stab at implementing support for virtual desktops.
